Brewster, M.A. – The Brewster Whitecaps had a much-needed bounce back day against the Bourne Braves. The Whitecaps swept the double header Sunday afternoon.

The Whitecaps won the first game 6-1 and won the second game 3-1. The Whitecaps recorded a season-high 11 hits in game one. Brewster then powered their way to a win in the second game with two home runs.

“Look at the scoreboard; we haven’t seen that all season. The guys really came through,” Whitecaps Manager Jamie Shevchik said.

The Whitecaps opened up the scoring in game one with back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the second inning. The hits came from Javier Vaz (Vanderbilt) and Alex Freeland (UCF).

The Whitecaps had eight hits in the first three innings, which was more than they had in Saturday night’s game.

The Whitecaps put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the third. Grayson Tatrow (Abilene Christian) drove a run-in with a sacrifice fly, and David Mendham (Oklahoma State) pushed the next run-in with an RBI Single.

Bourne got a run back in the top of the fourth, but the Whitecaps buried the Braves with another two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Ryan Lasko (Rutgers) finished game one going three for three with an RBI. Alex Freeland (UCF) finished game one with two hits and an RBI.

“I have been hitting the balls hard the last two weeks, but they have been at people. Today I finally found some holes,” Ryan Lasko Said.

Joe Mancini (Boston College) was also one of the stars of game one for the Whitecaps. Mancini went five innings and only allowed two hits and one run.

“It has been awesome and really a dream come true being here on the cape,” Joe Mancini said.

Patrick Copen (Marshall) and John West (Boston College) came in relief and only allowed one run combined hit in two innings to finish off Bourne in game one.

Game 2

Bourne struck first and fast with a 454-foot home run in the top of the first. However, a big third inning propelled the Whitecaps to a doubleheader sweep.

The Whitecaps only scored three runs all game, but it was enough to propel them over Bourne. All three of their runs came in the third inning.

After a Javier Vaz (Vanderbilt) walk, Alex Freeland (UCF) stepped up and hit his league-leading fifth home run of the summer.

Davis Diaz (Vanderbilt) then made it back-to-back home runs to give the Whitecaps a 3-1 lead.

Grant Taylor (LSU) started the game for the Whitecaps and was superb. Taylor went five innings allowing two hits and one run and struck out six batters.

Paul Gervase (LSU) and Ryan Chasse (Campbell) came in relief and sealed the win for the Whitecaps.

The Whitecaps, after a perfect day, will now have an off day before being back at home vs. Chatham.
