Orleans, M.A. – For the second game in a row, the Whitecaps drew a tie, but this time it was against the Orleans Firebirds with a final score of 4-4.
It was a disappointing game for the Whitecaps, who had the lead and gave it up in the bottom of the eighth and failed to score again in the ninth inning.
Carson Demartini (Virginia Tech) got the Whitecaps going with a two-run RBI double, followed by a Javier Vaz (Vanderbilt) RBI single to make it 3-0 Whitecaps.
The Firebirds got one back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Whitecaps answered right back in the top of the eighth with another run to go up 4-1. The run came off a Logan Bravo (Harvard) RBI single.
The Whitecaps seemed to be well on their way to victory until a big home run from the Firebirds made it a tie ball game 4-4. The home run would end the scoring for both teams.
The end result would become the Brewster Whitecaps’ second tie-in as many days.
Grant Taylor (LSU) started for the Whitecaps today and was brilliant. Taylor went six scoreless innings and had five strikeouts.
Alex Freeland (UCF), Trevor Werner (Texas A&M), Logan Bravo (Harvard), and Javier Vaz (Vanderbilt) all walked away with two hits on the day.
It’s another disappointing game for a team who had the game in the bag for the first seven and a half innings.
However, the Brewster Whitecaps will be back in action tomorrow at 5 pm at Stony Brook Field.
