Whitecaps Take on Mariners for the First Time

By: Finn Riley

Brewster, M.A. 一 The Whitecaps take on the Harwich Mariners at Stony Brook Field, with the first pitch coming at 5:00 pm.

This will be the first matchup between the two East Division rivals this summer, and the Whitecaps will look to capitalize on a struggling Mariners team.

Over their last ten games, the Harwich Mariners are just 2-6-2 and hold a team batting average of .196.

The Whitecaps received some well-needed rest yesterday with a rain-out and will be in good hands with Joe Mancini (Boston College) on the bump.

Mancini has been lights-out for the Whitecaps this summer, as he currently holds a 1.92 earned run average through his first three starts.

The Brewster offense has not scored a run in their last 12 innings and will look to have some more consistency heading into today’s game.

Look out for newcomer Trevor Werner (Texas A&M) to be a difference-maker on the offensive end, as he is coming off of his first multi-hit game of the summer.

Also, make sure to keep an eye on the Caps pitching staff which holds an exceptional 2.79 earned run average.

Tune into our Twitter (@WhitecapsCCBL) for live updates on the game and listen to a radio call (here) from commentators Johnny Gadamowitz and Doug Lattuca.
