Whitecaps suffer second straight defeat.

The Whitecaps fell to the Chatham Anglers 3-1 at Veterans Field Tuesday night for their second straight defeat.

The Whitecaps have had difficulty catching their groove in July and suffered their second defeat at Veterans field this summer.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Anglers loaded the bases with no outs but could only scratch out one run and take a 1-0 lead.

Chatham struck again in the bottom of the third inning off an RBI triple to make the score 2-0.

Chatham then added their third and final game run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 3-0.

Chatham only needed three runs to take down the struggling Whitecaps, who only pushed one run across off a Cam Fisher (Charlotte) home run in the top of the eighth inning.

Carson Liggett (Lousiville) started on the mound for the Whitecaps and went three innings, only giving up two runs.

The pitchers that followed Liggett were Grant Kipp (Yale), Brennen Oxford (Wake Forest), and Ryan Packard (Dayton).

The Whitecaps continue to have a rocky July and now fall nine points behind the first place Y-D Red Sox and only two points above the third place Orleans Firebirds.

The Whitecaps will now have a huge showdown with Orleans Wednesday night at home, with the first pitch coming at 5 pm.
