Yarmouth, M.A. – The Brewster Whitecaps were able to win their second in a row against the Y-D Red Sox by a score of 3-1.
The Whitecaps were able to sweep the early home and home series against their division rival. The Whitecaps’ two-game win streak comes right before the first off day of the season.
“Every win in the division is important because you have no idea how this season is going to play out,” Whitecaps Manager Jamie Shevchik said.
The Whitecaps jumped on the board early with a leadoff home run from Alex Freeland (UCF). “I was confident going in because I had a great BP. I just went up there and tried to be aggressive,” Freeland said.
The 1-0 lead didn’t last long for the Whitecaps. The Y-D Red Sox were able to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning.
The second run of the game for the Whitecaps came off a double from Grayson Tatrow (Abilene Christian) in the top of the third. Brennan Millone (Oregon) was able to score all the way from first off of the Tatrow double.
The Whitecaps then scored again in the top of the fourth. The run came off a wild pitch that scored Cam Leary (Boston college) from third.
Three runs were all the Whitecaps needed because of the wonderful performance by Teddy McGraw (Wake Forest). Mcgraw went six innings and only allowed one run.
“I’ve been going in the right direction for a while now, and it feels good to come out here and get a win,” McGraw said.
Following McGraw were Brennan Oxford (Wake Forest), Will Greer (Bucknell), and Patrick Copen (Marshall). The three combined were able to hold the Red Sox to three scoreless innings.
The Whitecaps now (2-1) have won two in a row and will have an off day on Wednesday. The Whitecaps will be back in action at Orleans, with the first pitch coming at 6:30.
