Whitecaps fall to Falmouth

By Maxwell Paul McLaughlin

Brewster, M.A – The Brewster Whitecaps dropped their first game in July this season, with a 7-3 loss to the Falmouth Commodores.

Falmouth controlled the game from start to finish, even with Brewster showing some signs of hope.

The Commodores of Falmouth struck first and hard on the Whitecaps; the Commodores put a four-spot up on the Whitecaps in the top of the first.

The Whitecaps picked up their first game run in the bottom of the third after a throwdown to second on a steal scored by Alex Freeland from third.

Falmouth then took a commanding lead in the top of the fifth with three runs and took a 7-1 lead on the Whitecaps.

The Whitecaps got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth off an Alex Freeland (UCF) RBI single and fielders’ choice to score the second run of the inning.

It wasn’t the best night for the Whitecaps, who had a chance to claim first place with a win and a Y-D loss. The Whitecaps will now have to wait another day to claim first place.

The game ended after eight innings due to darkness for the second straight night.

The Whitecaps will be back in action Sunday night at Harwich, with the first pitch coming at 5:30 pm.
