Whitecaps drop third straight.

Harwich, M.A. – The Whitecaps suffered their third straight loss by a score of 10-4 to the Harwich Mariners.

They have now fallen into a tie for second place with Harwich in a race to the playoffs and only a week left in the season.

The Whitecaps struck first and hard in the first inning; Kurtis Byrne (TCU) clobbered his first home run of the season with a man on to give the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead.

It was Byrne’s first home run after almost two seasons on the cape and was a long time coming with all the hard-hit balls Byrne has had in two summers.

Harwich got one back in the bottom of the first with their own home run to make it a 2-1 game.

The bottom of the second inning was devastating as the Mariners batted around and put up seven runs on the Whitecaps, including a grand slam to make it 8-2 in favor of the Mariners.

Brock Wilken (Wake Forest) smashed a home run for Harwich in the bottom of the fifth to give the Mariners a 9-2 lead.

The Whitecaps put up two runs in the ninth to make the score 10-4, but that would be all.
