Whitecaps Cruise to Win

By Maxwell Paul McLaughlin

The Whitecaps ended their winless streak with a massive 7-2 win at Falmouth Wednesday night.

It was an all-out team win for the Whitecaps, who had multiple contributions on the offensive end and five pitchers only allowing a combined two runs.

“We were good on both sides of the ball tonight , both on the offensive and defensive end; we needed that one,” Whitecaps Manger Jamie Shevchik.

The Whitecaps struck first and fast against the Commodores, with back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the first from Cam Fischer (Charlotte) and David Mendham (Oklahoma State) to make it 3-0 Whitecaps.

The Commodores cut into the deficit with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-2.

The Whitecaps poured it on in the top of the sixth, with four runs. The first run came from a fielder’s choice that scored Carson Demartini (Virginia Tech).

The next three runs all came off of RBI Singles from Chase Adkison (Oklahoma State), Davis Diaz (Vanderbilt), and Javier Vaz (Vanderbilt).

The Commodores loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but Ryan Lasko (Rutgers) made a spectacular diving catch to get the Whitecaps out of the inning.

Falmouth saw five different Whitecap Pitchers toe the rubber, including; Liam Simon (Notre Dame), Hunter Owen (Vanderbilt), Colton Sundloff (Oklahoma), Brennen Oxford (Wake Forest), and Ryan Packard (Dayton).

“I liked what I saw from all our pitchers tonight; to hold them to two runs is huge,” Shevchik said.

The Whitecaps will try for two straight wins Thursday night against their division rival, the Y-D Red Sox, with the first pitch coming at 5 pm at home.
