Brewster, M.A. – The Whitecaps stay red hot with an 11-8 win over the Orleans Firebirds.
The Whitecaps, who started red hot, had to dig deep and hold on to a win they almost gave away to the Firebirds. With the win the Whitecaps secured their fourth straight victory.
The Whitecaps, like the previous night, started with two runs in the first inning; the first run came on a double steal that scored a runner from third, Grayson Tatrow (Abilene Christian), then came up with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second, the Firebirds were finally able to plate a run across against the Whitecaps after going ten straight innings without scoring to make it 2-1.
The Whitecaps put another three runs up in the bottom of the second; the first run came in off a fielders choice, and the next two came off a throw from the third baseman that got by the Orleans catcher.
The Whitecaps put the Firebirds into more misery with four more runs in the bottom of the third; the first two runs came off of back-to-back RBI singles from Carson Demartini (Virginia Tech) and Ryan Lasko (Rutgers), and the next two runs came off another huge error from the Firebirds.
Chase Adkison (Oklahoma State) then got in on the fun with an RBI single for himself to make the score 10-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Right after the 10-1 start, things started to get very interesting as the Orleans Firebirds started to come back against the Whitecaps.
Jackson Nezuh (Louisana Lafeyatte) came in relief and was untouchable for two-innings. In his third inning of work, the Firebirds put up four runs, and he was replaced by Hunter Owen (Vanderbilt).
Owen didn’t have much luck either; Orleans plated three more runs and cut the Brewster lead to 10-8.
Brewster later added an insurance run from a Kurtis Byrne (TCU) on a sacrifice fly to make it 11-8.
Brennen Oxford (Wake Forest) would come on to complete the six-out save and secure Brewster their fourth straight victory with one game remaining.
