The Whitecaps dropped both games of the doubleheader Sunday at Cotuit on a rainy and cold Father’s day afternoon.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Whitecaps lost a heartbreaker 1-0. Cotuit’s only run came off a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Whitecaps lost again by a score of 5-0. The game started with a slight rain delay and when the rain delay ended it was all Kettleers.
One bright spot from the Whitecaps today was the Cape League Debut from Cade Kuehler (Campbell).
Kuehler pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball and recorded six strikeouts. “It’s always nice to go out there and compete,” Kuehler said. “There are a lot of great hitters in the cape and it’s a great experience.”
There wasn’t a lot of offense to go around for the Whitecaps today, one mentionable thing was Dixon Black’s (Monmouth) double in game one which was his first hit of the cape season and the only extra-base hit for the Whitecaps.
Kurtis Byrne (TCU) extended his hitting streak to three games with a single in game two on Sunday.
The Whitecaps are now at .500, but still, stand atop of the East division. Monday will be a much-needed off-day before the Whitecaps are home Tuesday night against the Hyannis Harbor-hawks.
